About Us
Capt. Owen Pereira is the founder and Managing Director of Sigma Marine Services. With a maritime career spanning over five decades, he began his seafaring journey in 1968 and achieved his Master Mariner’s Certificate of Competency, attaining command as Captain in 1981. In 1991, Capt. Pereira established Sigma Marine Services in Mumbai, India, initially specializing in surveying and crewing services for foreign vessels.
Leveraging his extensive expertise and credentials as an ISM/ISPS/MLC/ISO Auditor, Capt. Owen expanded Sigma Marine Services to Vancouver, Canada, in 2006. He subsequently served as Lead ISM Auditor at BC Ferries for 12 years, overseeing safety management systems and compliance. Today, Capt. Pereira continues to lead Sigma Marine, conducting Flag State Inspections and Safety Management System (SMS) Audits for domestic and international clients.
Capt. Darren Pereira serves as Director and Flag Inspector at Sigma Marine Services. He launched his maritime career in 2009, serving as an Officer on the Great Lakes for seven years before joining BC Ferries, where he advanced to the roles of Captain and Senior Captain over an eight-year tenure.
In addition to his responsibilities at Sigma Marine, Capt. Darren Pereira is the Cofounder and Chief Operating Officer of Greenline Marine and an Instructor at the Western Maritime Institute. He is a qualified ISM/ISPS/MLC Auditor and holds a Master’s degree in Maritime Management, demonstrating a strong commitment to safety, compliance, and maritime education
